Got Head Injury? The First 48 Hours
I’ll be honest, if you suffer from a head injury, this post might make your headache and eyes hurt worse. Why? Your eyes are tracking side to side as you read. Also, prolonged reading on a screen tends to elevate concussion symptoms. You can count this as a disclaimer. I’ll be sure to keep this post short!
If you got a head injury today, here’s what to do for the next 2 days:
1. Get Evaluated
Evaluation by your doctor and an Athletic Trainer is vital. To know what is safe to do and what isn’t, get evaluated so you know what you’re working with. Your local emergency room could also be helpful in more extreme cases.
2. Cognitive Rest
Think of an easy Saturday without plans. Total screen time should be kept to 1 hour maximum. While many have difficulty with this, studies show it shortens your overall recovery time and can get you back to sport sooner.
3. Go for a Walk
You read that right! Studies show walking is safe and helpful for recovery. Just be sure to start under the direction of your doctor or Athletic Trainer.
